Shockwave Therapy for
Stubborn Tendon, Joint, and Myofascial Pain
A non-invasive treatment that helps your body repair injuries that haven't responded to rest, stretching, or other care.
If you've been dealing with the same pain for months and the usual approaches haven't held, shockwave therapy is worth considering.
It uses targeted sound waves to prompt your body's own repair process in tendons, muscles, and bone. No surgery, no invasiveness and no medication. Most patients notice a significant change within the first few visits.
What shockwave therapy can help with
Shockwave has the strongest clinical evidence for many stubborn tendon and soft-tissue problems. It's commonly used for:
Heel and arch pain that's worst with your first steps in the morning (plantar fasciitis)
Tennis elbow pain on the outside of the elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
Golfer's elbow pain on the inside of the elbow (medial epicondylitis)
Shoulder pain from calcium deposits in the rotator cuff (calcific tendinopathy)
Outer hip pain that flares when you lie on your side (greater trochanteric pain syndrome)
Joint pain from osteoarthritis (OA)
Jumper's knee pain just below the kneecap (patellar tendinopathy)
Achilles pain at the back of the heel or lower calf (Achilles tendinopathy)
Shin splints that return every time you run (medial tibial stress syndrome)
Slow-healing or non-healing fractures
It tends to be most useful for chronic pain that hasn't improved with other treatment, and for acute injuries you want to heal as efficiently as possible.
How It Works
Shockwave therapy delivers focused acoustic waves into the injured tissue, up to 12.5 cm deep. That does a few things at once: it increases blood flow to the area, reduces inflammation, breaks down scar tissue and calcium buildup, and stimulates the tissue to regenerate via stem cell activity.
In practice, that means:
The waves reach the source of the pain: a handheld device targets the specific injured tendon, muscle, or bone.
Your body's repair response activates: circulation improves and new tissue growth begins in the days that follow.
Improvement builds over a course of treatment: many patients feel a difference after the first session, with the best results developing over 6–12 visits for some conditions, while others may improve in just 2–4 visits.
What to expect
Most acute injuries show 10–30% improvement after a single session, with further gains over the following visits. The treatment itself is brief. Some patients feel mild discomfort while the waves are applied, which usually settles quickly.
